Plant type: Upright bush with short vine (Type II).
Plant height: Taller than Crestwood
Plant spread: Narrower than Crestwood and Fleetside
Maturity: Full season; two days later than Ex Rico 23
and four days earlier than Harofleet.
Flower color: White
Pods: Light beige at maturity; no anthocyanin pigment;
four to eight seeds per pod.
Root: Large, sturdy, extensive, similar to Crestwood.
Lodging resistance: Good; suitable for direct combining.
Yield potential: Excellent.
Seed characteristics: Dull white seed coat; ellipsoidal
and slightly flattened in shape; seed weight – 20.6
gm/100 seeds; cooking quality – acceptable, similar
to OAC Seaforth.
Disease resistance: Resistant to races 1 and 15 of bean
common mosaic virus (BCMU) and to the alpha, beta, gamma
and delta races of bean anthracnose; moderately tolerant
to white mold due to its upright structure.
Performance: Vista has yielded
extremely well in the Official Ontario Field Bean Trials
from 1987 to 1989 and appears to be well adapted to
the bean production areas where full season varieties
are being grown.
Seed stocks: Foundation seed
stocks are maintained and produced by Gentec, Inc. Twin
Falls, Idaho to ensure the highest quality of seed with
respect to genetic purity and freedom from seed-borne
diseases.
