Great Northern Hydra

Hydra is a conventional plant type similar to Marquis, however Hydra tends to be more upright. Its larger seed and good bean characteristics have given it an additional economic advantage to the grower from potential higher grade ratings on their crops.

It is moderately tolerant to bacterial brown spots and some races of rust. Bill Z is resistant to BCMV 1 and 15 and CTV.

Montrose is a high yielding, mid-season, disease resistant pinto. Montrose pinto has a prostrate Type III plant habit, maturing in approximately 92-95 days in Colorado. Seed has a traditional pinto size of 1237 seeds / lbs, and seed quality is excellent.
Montrose is resistant to prevalent races of rust, and bean common mosaic virus, but is susceptible to white mold due to its prostrate vine type.

Short vine habit maturing approximately 88-90 days. It is resistant to BCMV 1 and 15 and CTV. It is a good yielder with acceptable seed size, color and cooking qualities, a good choice for early harvest or replant.
Pinto Poncho

Poncho is a high yielding vine variety adapted to much of the high plains region. Poncho has a medium length vine with enough stem structure to keep many pods off the ground, and this helps to maintain bean quality. Poncho has its best performance on medium fertility or sloping soils. Poncho is a mid-season vine variety with an approximate maturity of 95 days. This is about the same as Bill Z. Poncho has the traditional pinto shape and size, with about 1200 seeds per pound. It has bright attractive seeds that are maintained well in storage. Poncho also has good cool soil germination. Poncho is tolerant to the prevalent strains of Bean Common Mosaic virus. It has shown some tolerance to bacterial brown spots and halo blight. Poncho also has some field tolerance to bean rust.

Quincy is generally more upright with a shorter vine than Othello. Quincy is susceptible to rust. Yield trials from 1998 to 2002, showed Quincy to yield with other high yielding pintos when grown in Colorado and Washington. Quincy is slightly larger than Othello and is an acceptable canner.

USDA Rattler is a high yielding pinto bean with resistance to potyvirus (BCMV, BCMNV), and bean rust. That performs well under abiotic stress (drought, low soil fertility) conditions. Ronnie’s Red has shown significantly higher yield potential then traditional kidney beans, such as Pink Panther and Cal Early LRK, on poorer grounds and potential for possibly lowering input costs by reducing the need for extra nutrients that kidney beans have traditionally needed. Dark Red Kidney Montcalm

This variety is similar in appearance, agronomic characteristics and maturity to Charlevoix, the standard dark red kidney variety in Michigan. Like Charlevoix, it has an excellent seed type with good canning and salad quality. Under moderate to heavy halo blight infestations, Montcalm will out yield Charlevoix. In the absence of halo blight, they will have comparable yields. Like Charlevoix, Montcalm is susceptible to common bacterial blight, and consequently a clean seed program has been employed in its increase.

Dark Red Kidney Red Hawk

Red Hawk is a high-yielding variety with an upright bush growth habit, mid- to full-season maturity, resistance to Races 7 and 73 of anthracnose, and excellent canning quality.
Red Hawk, tested as MSU No. K90101, was developed from the cross of the dark red kidney bean varieties Charlevoix and Montcalm.
Red Hawk was tested extensively for yield and agronomic traits for seven seasons (1990-96) over 36 locations. It averaged 22 cwt/acre and out yielded all commercial dark red kidney bean varieties by a margin of 2 to 11 percent.
Red Hawk is a mid- to full-season variety, maturing 99 days after planting with a range in maturity from 95 to 102 days, depending on season and location. It matures five days earlier than Montcalm, one day earlier than Isles and three days later than Drake. Red Hawk has demonstrated uniform maturity and excellent dry-down across a broad range of environments and fits a niche for an erect, high-yielding, mid- to full-season dark red kidney bean variety in Michigan.

Red Rover is a mid-season variety that offers resistance to Aphanomyces root rot. This resistance makes Red Rover a perfect fit for growers in Minnesota and Wisconsin who produce in light sandy irrigated soil. Even in productions where Aphanomyces has not been a problem, Red Rover has displayed healthier roots and improved mineral nutrition. Red Rover has an erect determinate bush structure and good canning quality.

An upright determinate yellow bean, with preliminary testing showing resistance to NY15 strain of bean common mosaic virus. It’s a full season variety maturing the same as Myosi. Preliminary yield data from ID and NE nurseries and yield trials shows 12724 has a yield advantage over current Yellow varieties. Seed count is 1,268 sds/lb for 2005-2007.
